12/28/2007 Entry: "Nintendo Wii"

I'm writing this review as of post-Christmas 2007.

We got the Nintendo Wii for $300. It was a really good deal considering people were scalping it like sports tickets on Ebay.

The Nintendo Wii is a very nice console. Very petite, small, and user friendly.

The wand movements are registered by the Wii console very accurately. It even shakes and makes noises when you win or make errors. Make sure to have lots of room for you (and your friends) to swing your arm to play the games.

The Nintendo Wii is GREAT for parties! We had it running on a projector so we had a 78" screen view. 78" is a little too big for single player games. But when we were playing 4 players with 4 different split-screen views, the 78" projection came in really handy. If you plan on running the Wii on an HDTV setup, you may need extra cables.

We also got tired of the WiiSports that came with the original Nintendo Wii fast. So we immediately bought the Wii Play. Plus we realized we needed an additional wand. Wii Play comes with mini games such as pool, ping-pong, etc PLUS an additional wand. It's not a party game unless there's more than one person playing it!

The original Nintendo Wii comes with only 1 wand and 1 nunchuk. So if you want more people to play with you, you'll have to buy more! We also got a WII charging station with rechargeable batteries so we don't use all the AA batteries in the house.

The Nintendo Wii is also capable of being connected to your wireless internet at home. The setup is very easy and user friendly. Just have your Wii Wand ready to hover over the keyboard display to input your wireless info.

Having wireless ability gives you access to your local weather and news right from your Wii console. Yes, I finally know why Wii players always know the weather forecast so well! PLUS you can download old Nintendo Games. The old games requires Wii points to purchase. The average price is from 500 points to 1000 points. You can purchase Wii points at Nintendo.com. For every 100 points = $1.00 US.

You can also insert your old GameCube CDs games. You just need to make sure you have a Wii Classic Controller to play the games.

Basically getting the Nintendo Wii is ONLY THE BEGINNING!!!

Once you get the Nintendo Wii you'll need all the accessories mentioned above just to have the full experience. I'm sure we still need additional games and accessories, but here's a run-down of the items we had to purchase within 24 hours of getting our Nintendo Wii:

1) Wii Play (for the additional Wii Wand & more games).

2) Purchased 2 additional Wii Wands for 4-player games.

3) Purchased 2 additional Wii Nunchuks for boxing and sports games (we should have gotten 3, but we were running out of money and had to cut costs somewhere. The 4th person without nunchuks can always share with someone.)

4) Purchased Recharge Station with 2 Recharge batteries for the Wii wands.

5) Purchased Mario vs. Sonic at the Olympics for fun athletic 2 to 4 player games.

6) Purchased Mario Party 8 for crazy fun party dueling games!

7) Purchased the official Wii messenger bag/carrying case.

That's the 7 essential items we bought after the Nintendo Wii arrived on our doorstep. There's so much more you can purchase for your Nintendo Wii, if you just search online!
