Extended Entry Below
Getty Museum:
Getty Museum was
pretty cool. They had a LOT of paintings and sculptures. I
haven't seen so many paintings and elaborate sculptures since
I went to the Huntington Library. But compared to the Huntington
Library, the Getty Center was way bigger and had a HUGE selection
of arty stuff. The Getty Center specializes in Greek and Roman
antiquities and lots of European and American photographs.
To get there, we had to pay $5.00 to park
at a parking structure that was 3/4 mile away from the actual
Getty Center. Then we had to wait for the tram to take us
to the actual museum. However the tram suffered a technical
difficulty during our arrival and we volunteered to hiked
the 3/4 of a mile instead. It took LONGER than the supposed
10 minutes but it was a pretty steep incline up to the center.
The instant we got there, we sat down at their cafe, NOT the
super expensive resturant to eat a quick lunch. The entree
and house salad at the cafe were delicious.
After lunch, we went inside the museum. It
took us three hours to visit as many of the galleries as possible.
Admission is free. We took a lot of pictures and most will
be posted up in my webshots folder when my camera charges
up again. Photography was allowed in the museum, but not the
FLASH part. I was amazed at the number of people who were
impressed by my Nikon Coolpix 2500 camera. hehe ^_^ I wish
I had more time to stay at the Getty Center, but we had to
quickly rush off to our next destination - Page Museum and
La Brea Tar Pits.
Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits
The Page Museum was
a lot smaller than I expected. I guess I was spoiled by the
size of the Getty Center. The Page Museum takes about 1/2
hour to walk through. The cost is normally $6.00, but we had
our student id and payed $3.50 a piece. Parking however was
$8.00, but we arrived a few hours before closing and thus
lucked out with only paying $6.00 for parking. I LOVE dinosaur
bones. I don't like digging them up, but I certainly love
looking at them. Ever since I took ONE anthropology class
at UCLA to satisfy by GE requirements, I fell in love with
the science. I love learning how to distinguish between a
girl T-Rex and a boy T-Rex ... and ummm ... no you don't lift
up their skirts to find out. =P But the biggest difference
is their facial structures. Since T-Rexes have big faces,
it's easy to distinguish the difference. I was expecting to
look at as much dino fossils as I did while I was in class,
but I was disappointed. They had no T-Rex bones there. They
had mostly mammoth, saber tooth, and dire wolf bones there.
But outside of the museum, the tar pits are still bubbling
and they smell like construction workers putting on new pavements
on the streets. We only stayed about one and a half hour at
the Page Museum then left. There wasn't that much to see,
but it was still fun try to play with the yucky tar and then
checking out the gift shop.
Later today:
After the museum trips, we visited William's old middle school.
Supposedly they shot teen wolf there, the movie with Michael
J. Fox. We took lots of pictures there. Then we drove down
to Beverly Hills to check out the rich people homes. I took
a couple of pictures there too. Drove down Rodeo Drive, and
took a few pics. Then we went to Westwood to eat dinner. After
that, we drove home and I'm here typing up my blog. We're
heading out to the San Diego Zoo tomorrow so I'll be heading
off to sleep soon. I still have to put in an hour of time
to study for my Constitution Test on Thursday morning. Supposedly
before I can become a teacher, I need to take a test proving
I know my US history. Although passing the US History AP test
was not enough, I need to take a Constitution Test to prove
it some more. *rolls eyes* Well I guess I feel better knowing
that my future collegues know their US history too.
