Legolas : Lord of the Rings: The Two
Towers is terrific! It was fun and exciting to watch. Also
Legolas did not disappointment my expectations. He is truly
an elven prince. So I decided to do a little digging on the
character of Legolas:
"...there was the Woodland Kingdom of the Sindar lord Thranduil.
The concealed city of the Silvin Elves of Thranduil was beautiful
and magical, for it was the diminished image of the ancient
Sindar realm of Menegroth- once the fairest city of Middle-earth...
"...in the Fourth Age, the son of the king took part of the
Silven Elves of this realm to the woodands of Ithilien in
Gondor. This prince was named Legolas and he became the lord
of the Elves in Ithilien."
- A Tolkien Bestiary, David Day
So Legolas is a 100% genuine elven prince.
The following is a excerpt from Legolasfans.net,

Each member of the Fellowship brought special
skills, in Legolas' case, more than I could list. Chiefly,
his archery skills and keen senses were very valuable to a
group being hunted by an army while trying to enter enemy
territory with the one thing the Dark Lord really needed.
A few other good reasons to keep him around:
1) He can build a boat!
2) If you give him cause to kill, you will be dead before
you notice him readying his bow.
3) His aim isn't so bad, either.
4) He is keen with animals, and can tell a sparrow from a
finch from far away.
5) The snowstorms don't bother him, and he can walk on snow
and leave no imprint.
6) He sleeps with his eyes open. (kind of spooky but if you
could do it you know you would)
7) Dude, he's a prince, and a very attractive one, at that.
8) You wouldn't notice him sneaking up on you, but neither
would enemies.
