07/11/2003 Entry: "Crescendo MAX"

PRODUCT REVIEW OF Crescendo
You don't have to download or buy anything!!!

AFTER an exhaustive search on the Internet for a plugin that would work on my Internet Explorer and Netscape browser, I finally found Crescendo MAX. I used to use Crescendo Basic, but it is a detachable midi plugin and it crashed my stupid compaq computer. (yes, my computer can't even handle a simple little popup). So I thought about getting Crescendo MAX. It wasn't that expensive and it was worth the risk for me.

Now I can listen to ALL the EMBEDED midi files out on the web again. Don't get me wrong, I had NO problems listening to midi files set up as BACKGROUND MUSIC. (see example here) But the problem with background music is that the end-user (people who are visiting the website), can't shut the darn midi file off! But webmasters who like to embed their music (see example here), allows their visitors to control the midi file, such as: play, stop, pause, etc. BUT the newer browsers of Internet Explorer and Netscape don't have the plugins to control it!!! Catch-22

That's where Crescendo MAX solved that problem for me today!!! So if you're looking for a good reliable software plugin for your computer, Crescendo is the way to go! It's pretty good for something that is under $10.

IF you have a GOOD & stable computer, unlike me, you might want to give the FREE Crescendo Basic a try! If it works on your computer for free, why not get it???

I use Windows ME on my Compaq and Windows XP on my Dell and Crescendo MAX works wonderful on both of them.

If you simply want to know how to embed your own midi, here's the HTML code for it:

< embed src ="http://location & name of your file.mid" LOOP="false" autostart="false" height="60"
width="145" controls="console" > < /embed >

Put the Height at LEAST 60 and WIDTH at LEAST 145 ... for sanity's sake, just do it. It's the minimal width and height needed for a good control console these days. That can change at any instant, but as of July 11, 2003, it works well. However, you can set the values at whatever you like.

MIDI html coding is either "true" or "false" = "yes" or "no"

Loop = if you want the music to repeat itself.
AutoStart = music starts as soon as the page loads (like background music)
controls = allows your visitors to control the music with their own console

That's it, start embedding your own music!!! Oh by the way, you can't embed music at Neopets, you can only use background music HTML coding (see below)

< bgsound src="http://location of your file & name of your file.mid" LOOP="false" >

Replies: 1 Brilliant Idea

I just tested out Windows Media 9 series software. It does bring back the good ol' controls of midi plugins. So if you want things for free, get either Crescendo Basic or if you have a good computer, get the Windows Media 9 series. Enjoy! :)
