04/10/2002 Entry: "I am caught up!"
Yes, I forced myself to catch up on everyone's blogs BEFORE I started working on mine. Yup, otherwise something will come up and I won't be able to complete it. So after reading everything, I took the Life Expectancy Test that I found on Crinkle's Page. Then this Life/Death clock popped up and told me that I would live until Tuesday December 18, 2057 at 3:57:13 PM. Golly ... maybe it's during my afternoon nap right before Christmas at the age of 81 !! I wonder if Neopets will be around by then =P My final results are in the "read more" section. I'd like to add to Jessyta's comment about "disgusting people". In her blog, she wrote about the police finding a puppy skinned ALIVE! But the police immidiately put the puppy to sleep so that it won't suffer anymore. Well yesterday, some guy signed up at Gemele.com Forum and started posting profane languages all over the forum. Then he private messaged the young girls on the side to ask if they wanted to have sex with him!!! I know this happens all the time online, but to purposely go around hunting for little girls online is NOT a joke! He might as well go into a mall and ask how many little girls would want to have sex with him and see how FAST the authorities will jump on him! The sick thing is that in the cyberworld, that behavior doesn't get much attention UNTIL some little girl goes missing. So until some little girl is actually missing or dead, authorities brush all signs aside thinking that ALL cyber people are just freaks. Now I digreess to a conversation I had with Tasha about this topic last night. We both started reminiscing about how safe the Internet was back in the early 1990's - where people had courtesy for one another. I was 18 when I first logged online and all the guys on the Internet were always courteous and protective. Any guy getting caught using profane languages in the chatrooms with a young girl in the room was immediately told to can it. I don't see THAT happening nowadays. Now all the guys want to see pictures (preferably nude ones) of girls before any actual chatting begins. Heck, it wasn't until recently that I started getting those stupid porn ads on YIM. So porn ads have moved from EMAIL to Instant Messages!! So I think as long as the mainstream population thinks that cyberspace is a natural place for sex-ahoics and cyber predators, the more we'll see little girls get hurt on the Internet. So I think that one day, parents will simply ban all online connection for kids. But that won't solve the problem. The problem lies in the fact that authorities and Internet Service Providers turn a blind eye to potential cyber predators. The ISP just wants money, they don't care if they are unleashing cyber predators onto the Internet. And police can't do anything until someone is missing or dead. So even if I report these abuses to ISP, they don't care and they don't do anything. Even if it's against their "Acceptable Use Policy". So I just don't know what can be done. I try to keep Gemele.com as safe as possible by immediately baning anyone using profane languages, but it just seems that there are NO consequences for this type of behavior online. Well anyways, now I'm just ranting. So I'll stop now and just hope that things will get better online ... Extended Entry Below Well here are my final results of the life expectancy test:
Not sure if I'll want to live to 99, that's so close to 100 but just missing it by ONE year. So I'm happy with 81 =P Or maybe I may want to stretch it to 90, just for fun =P |

I just thought I would add to that. I've been noticing and mentioning to people lately how the trends have gone on the internet where being polite to a person and letting them be an idiot is more important than netiquette. I know it's a small thing when girls are being raped and kidnapped, but it's part of the problem. Posted by jamie @ 04/10/2002 06:53 PM PST |
