05/13/2002 Entry: "Mother's Day Weekend"

Okie quick recap of my weekend. This is my 2nd time typing this up because my browser crashed the first time around. On Friday, I had my PERL final, which I am very glad that is finally over. It was only 10 questions, but it took me 1.5 hours to finish it. It was a grueling test. It wasn't that difficult, but it was tedious. There was more number crunching involved than the actual PERL programming. I was fearful of trying to calculate 10^5 * 2.4563889 without a calculator. EWWW! I mean, what do I know without my trusty old Sharp Graphing Calculator??

Then after the final, we went to eat Korean Soft Tofu. I'm still trying to figure out how the whole ritual worked, but I think I did better than last time. I'm starting to get into the habit of putting in the raw egg into the sizzling bowl FIRST instead of after I finish my meal. Then we went to Hollywood Video to rent Cinderella II and Rat Race.

Then on Saturday, I had to go to William's Dad's place for a Mother's Day celebration. Yes it's odd, his parents are divorced and we go to his Dad's place for the celebration. But hey, that's where the food and party was. William's grandmother was there too, along with all her friends, his step-mother's friends and neighbors. In all, there was around 50 people at the party. Then we played mah-jong until 10:00 PM at night. (more in read more ...)

Extended Entry Below

Yes very typical. Everything eventually wraps up with Teresa Teng Karoke and mah-jong. Teresa Tang is like the Barbra Streisand of the Chinese music industry. Her voice was beautiful beyond comparison. Teresa had a brilliant career until she suddenly died from an asthma attack in her hotel room in Paris at an early age of 44. Teresa starred in movies and tv shows. She performed for the military. She sang English and Chinese songs. Although she wasn't much of a public speaker but when she sang, everyone fell silent. She lived a lonely life and she died alone in her hotel room (her boyfriend was away at the time). And how do I know all this?? Because every time a Teresa Tang karoke laserdisc is played, everyone starts talking about how tragic her life is. Not exactly the way I would want my own life to be remembered.

Then after the Mother's Day party on Saturday, I came home and watched Cinderella II DVD I rented from Hollywood Videos. I regret watching it cause it ruined the picture perfect ending of the classic Disney Cinderella Story. Then came Sunday, the real mother's day. I spent most of the day catching up on my Saturday morning cartoons - Zeta Project (official site) and X-men. There wasn't anything new on Pokemon and I didn't notice any Static Shock this week. Oh well they keep changing the lineup.

By the time I finished my cartoons, it was REALLY hot inside the room. It was around 12:30 PM and it was like 88.5 degrees in the room! Yikes! Opening the windows didn't really help and I didn't want to go back to sleep. So I flipped on the computer and started eating Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Brownie ice cream. So I finally turned on my computer after an entire week of not working on my computer. So there I was working on Gemele.com. I got some stuff done, but I still have quite a bit to do. Then we went to eat dinner and went grocery shopping. We needed to stack up on water if this heatwave continues. I also got 4 rainchecks on Great White popsicle sticks. Each box was on sale for $1.19, and there are 12 popsicles in one box. So I couldn't turn down that deal! Also we travelled to three different Ralphs just to find the Great White Popsicle Sticks. Yes THREE (3) Ralphs!!! Who would have thought I had three Ralphs within a 3 mile radius of my home?? We also discovered that each Ralphs have different expiration dates for the same brand and type of milk. The better of the THREE (3) Ralphs had the better milk. Yes, we conducted an internal milk audit of the three stores too. =P

Then we got home and thank goodness the VCR taped Dinotopia. I LOVE the books! Then we watched the 2nd to last episode of X-Files. Then we did laundry, cleaned the bathroom, did the dishes, and scrubbed the refrigerator. Why the sudden insanity to clean in this heatwave?? Well, with the weather warming up, I made sure we are careful with the hygeine of the room. The last thing I need is another ANT ATTACK! Also, I decided to place the milk in the frig and behold, I had a ton of crap in the frig! Oh yes, did you know that even if a cheesecake is placed in the freezer, it can mold?? Oh did you know that ice box molded too?? Oh yes, eggplant loses it's purple color when becomes moldy - it kinda turns fuzzy white. Yup yup, there are lots of other moldy stuff I found in the frig but I think I'll only list the three biggest scientific discoveries I made.

So yup, that was my wonderful weekend.
