Kagome is rumored to be the reincarnation of the priestess Kikyo.

Kikyo accidentally fell into their family's sacred well and entered the feudal era. Inside her was the Sacred Jewel. But a demon sensed the jewel and tore the jewel from her body.

Kagome is also able to create the Sacred Arrow whenever she picks up a bow and arrow. The Sacred Arrow is a powerful arrow that can purify anything it hits.

Kikyo, priestess

The love of Inuyasha's life. Kikyo has the ability to purify the Sacred Jewel with her touch & she can also shoot the Sacred Arrow.

The tragic love story of Kikyo began when she wanted to give the Sacred Jewel to Inuyasha. But before Kikyo could give Inuyasha the Sacred Jewel to make him a full human, Naraku tricked her to think that Inuyasha was trying to steal the Sacred Jewel to become a full demon. In self defense, she shot the Sacred Arrow and pinned Inuyasha against the sacred tree.

She then sacrificed her life to rid the feudal world of the Sacred Jewel. However, her sacrifice was in vain, because the Sacred Jewel returned in Kikyo's reincarnation - Kagome.

Inuyasha, a half demon

The younger son of a powerful dog-demon. He was going to receive the Sacred Jewel from his love, Kikyo, to become a full human being. Instead, Naraku tricked him to believe that Kikyo betrayed their love.

Inuyasha now teams up with Kagome to find the pieces of the Sacred Jewel.

Kaede, little sister of Kikyo, also a priestess

Helps to guide Kagome and others on their quest. Kaede remains in her village, which is close to where Kagome's well is located.

Shippo, a fox demon

Travels with Kagome on her quest to recover all the pieces of the Sacred Jewel. Shippo has the ability to shape-shift and disguise himself.

Miroku, a monk

He suffers from a curse placed upon his father by the demon Naraku. His quest is to kill Naraku so that the curse of the "Wind Tunnel" can be lifted from his hand. Otherwise like his father, he will one day perish as he is sucked into his own hand.

Miroku has a good heart, but he's always hitting on women.

Sango, a demon exterminator

She comes from a village of demon exterminators. Her quest is to avenge her village and to free her little brother Kohaku from the evil grasps of demon Naraku.

Sango also has a faithful sidekick named Kirara.

Kirara, a cat demon

Pictured on the left, Kirara is the faithful sidekick and friend of Sango.

Koga, a wolf demon

Koga is the leader of the wolf demon tribe in the Western Lands. He is the self-proclaimed fiance of Kagome.

Naraku, powerful evil demon

He was born when Onigumo, a common thief, gave his body to be ravaged by 100s of demons in hopes that Onigumo could walk again. Instead the process gave birth to Naraku. (below is the true form of Naraku)

Kagura, incarnation of Naraku

The first of the powerful incarnations of Naraku to be introduced. Kagura is the Wind Sorceress, the 2nd incarnation of Naraku. She was created by Naraku with the powers of the Sacred Jewel to aid and carry out Naraku's evil plans.

Sesshomaru, full-blooded demon

The older brother of Inuyasha, a 100% full-blooded aristocratic demon. His quest is to kill his half-brother Inuyasha. He sees Inuyasha as an abomination to his demon heritage. Sesshomaru is given the sword Tenseiga by his late dog-demon father, a sword that can save 100s of lives.

Rin, traveling campanion of Sesshomaru

Rin is a sweet human girl who risked her own life to bring food to Sesshomaru, who at the time, was seriously injured from the Wind Scar. Although Sesshomaru does not eat human food, he was taken by Rin's kindness. Rin has been Sesshomaru's traveling companion ever since.
