01/23/2003 Entry: "Clever
Cam Entry Part 2"
I just rewrote the Clever Cam 360 installation
instructions on July 30, 2003. YES 2003 !! It is more complete and
with more step-by-step instructions. So see below:
If you are only here to see how to get it to work
on Yahoo Instant Messenger or AOL Instant Messenger then go visit
the text in "BLUE".
Extended Entry Below
Please make sure you have your Clever Cam 360
Install CD. You need to first install all the softwares on this
CD along with the Clever Cam drivers.
Unplug the Clever Cam from USB port during all driver
installations processes.
I'm sure you can install the clever cam drivers
directly from downloading the files on the Internet, but there is
no way for you to test to see if it works without something to test
it on.
So I made sure I installed the PhotoImpress, VideoImpression,
and PhotoFantasy software first. The software that's most important
is the VideoImpression software, because that's where you can test
if you are getting the LIVE video feed directly from the Clever
Cam.
Now PLUG YOUR Clever Cam back into the USB port
Now if you are NOT having ANY problems with your
VideoImpression and you are getting a good LIVE feed, than you do
NOT need to read on.
However, if you are having problems, then you should
read on.
Uninstall the Clever Cam 360 drivers that you already
installed via the software CD.
Go back to the Clever Cam main website, and download
the new driver updates.
http://www.clevercam.com/support/support.htm
UNPLUG your Clever Cam from the USB port again.
Unzip the Clever Cam drivers somewhere (Please remember
where this folder is on your computer), and click on setup. The
new Clever Cam drivers are now setup on your computer. It will ask
you to reboot your computer.
After your computer reboots, plug your Clever Cam
back into the USB port.
Now test to see if you have finally got your LIVE
video feed from the Clever Cam via the VideoImpressions software.
If not, then go to Project Mayo http://www.projectmayo.com/projects/detail.php?projectId=2
and download the following TWO (2) files: (HINT: download both these
files directly to the desktop of your computer)
OpenDivX Install File (*.exe)
Video For Windows dll Source
Install the OpenDivXInstall File first. It's quick
and easy and it's done.
Now test to see if you have finally got your LIVE
video feed from the Clever Cam via the VideoImpressions software.
If not, then unzip the Video for Windows dll source
- Take note that there should be a folder called "bin" after you
unzip it.
Next, do a search on your computer for the "divx.dll"
... it should be somewhere on your computer now. Mine was located
in my windows/system folder area.
Wherever you happen to find it, notice how it may
be spelled "DIVX.DLL", "Divx.dll", "DivX.Dll", but however it's
spelled, do the following:
Copy and paste that file into the following TWO
(2) places:
1) The divx4windows folder on your desktop
2) Into the divx4windows subfolder called "bin".
Make sure you rename however it's spelled to EXACTLY
"DivX.dll" It is CAPS sensitive!!!
Now COPY (NOT MOVE) all the files & folders inside
the divx4windows folder to the location where you first unzipped
the Clever Cam install files. I recommend copying all the files
so to make sure you still have the original divx4windows file on
your desktop. Trust me, you will thank me for this later). So please
only COPY the files & folders to wherever you installed you Clever
Cam install files.
At this point, the driver files are all mingled
with the Clever Cam setup files. (Awww how cute, the files are all
mingled. Now only if the people we made Clever Cam did this for
us to begin with).
It's almost over.
Go inside the "bin" folder (NOT the "bin" folder
on your desktop, but the other one ... the one inside your Clever
Cam drivers install folder).
Right mouse click on Divx.ini file and choose "Install"
option. During the install session, the computer might say it can't
find it the "DivX.dll" file, so you'll have to help the install
program find it's little way to the file.
After you do all this work, it should be done. Every
thing should work.
If NOT, if you are still having trouble getting
a LIVE feed from your Clever Cam 360 via your VideoImpressions software,
then you should try:
Copy the entire contents of the divx4windows files
(the one that is on your desktop) into the PhotoImpressions Folder
& VideoImpressions Folder in your Program Files.
Now check if that worked. If not, then do the following:
Copy the DIVX.DLL and the DIV.ini file into every
folder you can find that has to do with Clever Cam.
Try rebooting your computer and hopefully everything
will be fixed now. If it doesn't, then I'm very sorry.
For those that want your Clever
Cam to work in YIM or AIM, you must make sure you can get a LIVE
feed via your VideoImpressions software first. If you are NOT getting
a good LIVE feed, then you must fix that first before getting involved
in YIM Or AIM.
If you did get it to work in
VideoImpressions, then that's all you really need to do for you
to get your YIM cam to work. Just make sure you have the latest
YIM software and it should work. Make sure you learn HOW to use
YIM's webcam. I remember there are several settings you can choose
to setup your Yahoo Webcam. I don't use YIM anymore so I don't know
what those new settings are. But your Clever Cam SHOULD work on
YIM (if YIM didn't change it's software settings).
Now for AIM or MSN Messenger,
you should go to tucows.com
and download a ADDON for those instant messengers. (The direct link
to the ADDON/ADDIN section should be : http://www.tucows.com/cmessadd95_default.html).
AIM and MSN Messenger allows for VideoCam ADDONs. TuCows have several
for free and it's worth a try to pick the one that has the highest
ratings. I use BuddyVision on my system. The direct link to that
on Tuwcows is: http://www.tucows.com/preview/225549.html
I only use AIM and don't use
MSN Messenger so I wouldn't know how to get it work on that, but
for AIM, make sure you have the latest version.
If you chose BUDDYVISION, after
you downloaded and installed the program, an desktop icon should
be created. You click on that icon and it should automatically detect
your WebCam. It takes a few minutes so be patient. BuddyVision will
then do the rest of the work for you. Once it's completely setup,
just open AIM and start webcaming away!!! However I think there's
a better software. Buddyvision only works for AIM.
HINT: For AIM users, to save
you some work, just use Netmeeting. It's already comes on all computers
with Windows Operating System and you don't have to download any
extra softwares. I also noticed that it's very clear too.
For those that have heard of
Logitech Companion. http://www.tucows.com/preview/280116.html.
It's designed for both MSN and AIM. I read a lot of good reviews
on the Logitech software. It's also a freeware. But either way,
beware of firewalls by routers. I've been having trouble with sending
video chats to people because of the firewall by my router. So just
test and see what works best for you.
If you chose another software,
then you should follow the instructions based on that software.
If you are having trouble adding
it into your AIM Addin management, then go into your ADDIN management
and add the executable program to your ADDIN list. Don't confuse
the setup file with the actual Executable file. The setup just sets-up
the program. You need to find out where the software set itself
up on your computer. Should be under "Program Files" but who knows??
Find the .exe file ... and just add it on to your ADDIN list on
AIM. That's it! It's that simple. But of course, this all depends
on the Addin Software you're using. If you chose BuddyVision or
Logitech, it does all the work for you.
So now that your CleverCam works,
you've got to learn how to FULLY use it. Have fun learning & exploring!!!
:)
HINT: Any problems, try rebooting
your computer. It just might fix the problem ~_^
Comments section is closed. It's 2005 and there's
better webcams than Clever Cam. Especially with Windows Vista coming
out soon.

I greatly appreciate the help.
My husband bought 3 of them at a yardsale for $1 with no instructions,
disc's or even the cords! I found this web page and followed all
the instructions, and well, there must be something I did or didn't
do. I realize it is not your obligation to help those who can't
figure it out. But anymore iformation you could give would be greatly
appreciated. I really don't know my way around computers very well.
If not, thanks anyway for taking the time to figure it out for the
rest of us.

Alright everyone, If you DOWNLOADED
both of the files stated in my
instructions AND followed the setup process ... you SHOULD find
a DIVX.DLL AND Divx.ini somewhere on your computer. If you can't
find it, then you did something wrong (such as not installed things
properly) ... OR you made a typo.
Now, it DOES take a certain level of intelligence
to complete this fix. NOT everything is easy. You HAVE to read and
follow instructions. If you are not willing to read AND follow instructions,
then you should NOT have gotten the Clever Cam.
My suggestions HAVE helped SEVERAL people. If it's
not helping you, then look some where else. MY suggestions ONLY
work for CleverCam 360 ONLY!!! If you have any other version,
you're on your own.
Remember, I'm NOT Clever Cam's Tech support and
I don't get paid for this, AND no ONE helped me when I needed help.
I spent HOURS trying to figure this whole thing out. So take my
advice merely as advice. If it doesn't work for you, then ask Clever
Cam's Tech Support ... after all, THEY built it, and YOU paid for
it.

I've got issues with some of
your instrux - Re: "Copy it into these two places and then read
the instructions on "DivX Readme". Or you can just go to the "bin"
folder. Right mouse click on Divx.ini file and choose "Install"."
"Read the instructions on DivX Readme"? you've gotta
be kidding! It would take a few years of programming study to understand
anything in that file. "or you can go to the bin folder." To do
what? To right clik on the divx.ini file that isn't there, or anywhere
else in the computer? Like Nancy asked in her posting 2/15/03 posting:
where is the divx.ini file, & how does one get it? anyone out there
know?

Gemelle's Comments:
I can understand your frustrations, after all you got a Clever Cam.
I have the Clever Cam because I got it as a gift and for FREE. I
would NEVER have paid money for this thing. If you're looking for
someone to hand-hold you and walk you through the whole mess Clever
Cam created, you probably won't find anyone.
I am no engineer. I've NEVER studied programming.
BUT I am an expert at reading and following instructions AND analyzing
about what I've read. So you can either take my advice on Clever
Cam 360 OR you should return the thing. After all, I NEVER had to
post ANYTHING about my discovery on Clever Cam. But I wanted to
help people who are good at reading and following instructions a
chance to salvage what they've bought.
So either return your Clever Cam or try to read
through my instructions again to make it work.

Ok I have followed all the instructions
to a "T" and I still can't get my clever cam to work on Yahoo. I
t says "Your camera does not support the required image size." So
how did you get yours to work on Yahoo messenger? Did you change
the image size and if so how did you?

Gemelle's comments:
This is an excellent question. I have NO idea. My Yahoo Messenger
never aksed that question ??? You should try looking at the preferences
setting in Yahoo Messenger and see if you can lower the resolution
requirements set by Yahoo.

I have a question - I cannot
find DIVX.ini anywhere. SEARCH cannot find it either. Where is it
supposed to be?
==================
Gemelle's comments:
Are you sure you downloaded BOTH the installation files listed in
my instructions AND installed them properly?????????
If you installed everything as instructed, it should
be in a folder called "bin". Some computers might not tell you it's
the DivX.ini file. It might just be named "DivX". So it's very confusing.
But it's the only "DivX" named file that you can right mouse click
and get the "install" option. ~_^
